Boys will practice with and compete against boys, girls against girls. Practices will combine the Sub-Bantams and Bantams, the Sub-Midget and Midgets, and the boys and girls for the Youth age group.

Practices will be at Cherokee High School track and start in mid to late March, depending upon weather and daylight. Your coach will contact you in March with the time and date. The only thing that you will need to furnish is a pair of lightweight running shoes. Please note that spikes are not allowed at any of our local meets or practices.

We are a member of the South Jersey Track and Field Alliance, which includes teams from Mount Laurel, Winslow, Glassboro, Cape May, Medford, Salem, and Pitman. Most meets will be held on Saturday mornings and run from approximately 8: 30am to 1:00pm. The track events conducted will include the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, and 3000 meter run, 80, 100 and 110 meter hurdles, and the 4x100, 4x400, and 4x800 meter relays. Field events will include the Softball throw, Shot put, Discus, High Jump, and Long Jump. Eligibility for certain events is determined by the age of the athlete. The meets will begin in early to mid April and last through early June. The Track club will supply a uniform for each athlete prior to the first meet. For those with the ability to compete in the AAU Junior Olympics or the USA T&F Junior Olympics, which will be held in late July, qualifying meets will continue into June and July.

Volunteers are what make the Rec. Council work and the Track program is no exception. We are seeking coaches, assistant coaches, and team parents to help the coaches with the paperwork for the coming season. We do not do a fund-raiser such as a candy sale. In lieu of this, we expect each parent to volunteer to help at least once in the concession stand or staffing a meet during the season as we make the money to support the program through the concession stand at the meets we host. In addition, we will have an optional clothing sale, starting now, for team sweats, jackets and T-shirts.

There will be a meeting when registrations are completed. It is strongly suggested that everyone, especially first timers, please try to attend. There will be a short presentation on what our program is all about, schedules will be distributed, your questions will be addressed, and you will have a chance to meet the coaches. It will also be the last time you are able to purchase Track club clothing.
